(*1942) is rooted in the tradition of rational Swiss Style Typography. Since the publishing of his book, »Typography Today« in the early 80s he is one of the best known representatives of the Swiss Style. He studied under Emil Ruder, Robert Büchler and Kurt Hauert at the Basel School of Design in Switzerland. Helmut Schmid has worked in the field of Visual Design in Stockholm, Vancouver, Montreal and Berlin for Grafisk Revy, Ernst Roch Design as well as for magazines like IDEA and the TM. Amongst his works are visual concepts for numerous international companies. 1973-76 he designed the printed matter with conviction for the German government and the German Social Democratic Party. Since 1981 he lives and works as a graphic designer in Osaka, Japan. He is a typography teacher at the Hongik University in Seoul and at the Kobe Design University.

(*1942) è un importante esponente della tradizone razionalista svizzera e dagli anni 80 e della quale ne divenne un´icona con la pubblicazione del suo libro »Typography Today«. Dopo aver studiato con Emil Ruder, Robert Büchler e Kurt Hauert alla Basel School of Design in Svizzera, cominció a lavorare nel campo della comunicazione visiva a Stoccolma, Vancouver, Montreal e Berlino per Grafisk Revy, Ernst Roch Design e per riviste come IDEA e TM. 1973-76 (Düsseldorf). Progetta per ARE grafiche informative per il governo nonché una campagna propagandistica per il partito socialdemocratico SPD ed é creatore di concetti visuali per tantissime aziende internazionali. Dal 1981 vive e lavora a Osaka, Giappone come libero professionista. Schmid insegna tipografia alla Hongik University di Seoul e alla Kobe Design University.

(*1942) steht in der Tradition der rationalen schweizer Typografie. Er ist spätestens seit der Veröffentlichung seines Buches »Typography Today« in den frühen 80er Jahren, zu einem der wichtigsten Vertreter dieser Stilrichtung geworden. Er studierte an der allgemeinen Gewerbeschule in Basel unter Emil Ruder, Kurt Hauert und Robert Büchler. Helmut Schmid arbeitete seitdem als Gestalter in Stockholm, Vancouver, Montreal und Berlin, unter anderem für Grafisk Revy, Ernst Roch Design, sowie für Zeitschriften wie IDEA und TM /Typografische Monatsblätter. 1973-76 gestaltete er bei ARE in Düsseldorf Informationsdrucksachen für die Bundesregierung, sowie 1976 Kampagnenzeichen für die SPD. Zu seinen Arbeiten zählen zahlreiche visuelle Basiskonzepte für internationale Firmen. Seit 1981 lebt und arbeitet er als freischaffender Gestalter in Osaka, Japan. Er lehrt Typografie an der Hongik University in Seoul, als auch an der Kobe Design University.
