Nicola Chemotti and Elena Meneghini, students at the Faculty of Design and Art, have been long researching and working on the project Handdruck, which will be featured in an exhibition during the Unibz Design Festival.
Wandering in the center of Bolzano, last Winter, in search of fabrics for their projects, Nicola and Elena have entered the shop of natural yarns owned by Otto Von Aufschainter. Talking with him, they found out that he is a textile engineer and that in the 1970s he was a member of an artist collective that, between 1970s and early 1990s, has produced a series of original hand printed fabrics called ‘Handdruck’. Fascinated by this story and the remaining works of the series, Elena and Nicola have decided to study the old fabrics and their design, and to start a new production – Neue Serie Handdruck – that draws from them. The findings of the research they have conducted and sample products from the old and new screen printed series will be on show on the occasion of Unibz Design Festival.
